Police Officers Love Sunglasses

Quite often you will see the police wearing their police sunglasses but why on earth do they do this? The main reasons that people suggest are protecting the eyes, looking cool or because they can? It looks to be all three of them.

Sunlight

Although you do not often see this happening the police still patrol the streets on foot quite a lot and wearing sunglasses has to be done on a summers day as the sun is right on their eyes for the duration of their shift. It is actually recommended that police officers wear sunglasses on days like this and it can be especially as important for a police cyclist. Because these police officers are actually exposed to th sun when they are riding around it enables them to see the road.

Expressions- I don’t think so

A lot of cops will put on sunglasses when they are about to interview someone not only to hide their identity but to hide their expressions. Very clever criminals can play off of expressions which is partly why it is done. They will often be wearing reflective sunglasses so the criminal can only see themselves in the glasses.

Bad Ass

Most people would sooner listen to a cop in sunglasses than they would without them, it just looks like they shouldnt be messed with. Think way back to Terminator 2, remember when the cop took off his sunglasses, how bad did that look!

If you don’t believe me then it is well worth checking out some of the films with those awesome police designer glasses in and get yourself a pair of D&G sunglasses.

Of course there are many times in which the police wear these glasses because they have too but I am sure there are also many other times when they do it because they can. We would of course do it too.

Bullies, Tyrants, And Impossible People: How To Beat Them Without Joining Them

Bullies, Tyrants, And Impossible People: How To Beat Them Without Joining Them

$12.39

The impossible people who make life’s journey so difficult are everywhere at the office, in restaurants, on airplanes, living next door, members of your own family. They’re . . . your "nothing is ever good enough" boss the "no price is ever low enough" client the next-door neighbor who redefines the meaning of paranoia the maître d’ who looks through you as if you don’t exist the father-in-law who you know is always thinking about how much better a life his Janey or Joey would have if only married to someone other than you Ron Shapiro and Mark Jankowski give you a simple and highly effective 4-point plan for dealing with all of them and more N.I.C.E. Their system shows you how to neutralize your emotions so you don’t just react but act purposefully and wisely. It enables you to identify the type of bully, tyrant, or impossible person you’re facing the situationally difficult (something has happened that turns an otherwise reasonable person into a temporary terror); the strategically difficult (she has empirical evidence that being difficult is a strategy that gets results); or simply difficult (being difficult is his 24/7 M.O.). Then you’ll learn how to shape the outcome by controlling the encounter and, finally, how to get "unstuck" by exploring your options. Using colorful stories from all walks of life "He called me the scum of the earth and it went downhill from there," "First, lock all your vendors in a small room," and "The boss from hell" the authors bring their lessons to life, from business life to family life. From the Hardcover edition.

Them And Us

The suddenness and depth of the recession has raised questions about the workability of capitalism not seen since the 1930s. One of the constraints on recovery is the growing belief that if the old model did not work there is no new one on offer. This book sets out to provide one, arguing that reconstructing a bust financial system is not just a technical question. It cannot be done without a wholescale revision of the wider system and values on which it is based. And fairness must be placed at the heart of the new capitalism if our society is to recover its values. Will Hutton’s new book musters brilliant, convincing arguments which will lend favour on both right and left. It is set to be a book which captures the mood of the moment in the same way that THE STATE WE’RE IN did.

Genomes and What to Make of Them

Genomes and What to Make of Them

$18

The announcement in 2003 that the Human Genome Project had completed its map of the entire human genome was heralded as a stunning scientific breakthrough: our first full picture of the basic building blocks of human life. Since then, boasts about the benefits—and warnings of the dangers—of genomics have remained front-page news, with everyone agreeing that genomics has the potential to radically alter life as we know it. For the nonscientist, the claims and counterclaims are dizzying—what does it really mean to understand the genome? Barry Barnes and John Dupré offer an answer to that question and much more in Genomes and What to Make of Them , a clear and lively account of the genomic revolution and its promise. The book opens with a brief history of the science of genetics and genomics, from Mendel to Watson and Crick and all the way up to Craig Venter; from there the authors delve into the use of genomics in determining evolutionary paths—and what it can tell us, for example, about how far we really have come from our ape ancestors. Barnes and Dupré then consider both the power and risks of genetics, from the economic potential of plant genomes to overblown claims that certain human genes can be directly tied to such traits as intelligence or homosexuality. Ultimately, the authors argue, we are now living with a new knowledge as powerful in its way as nuclear physics, and the stark choices that face us—between biological warfare and gene therapy, a new eugenics or a new agricultural revolution—will demand the full engagement of both scientists and citizens.  Written in straightforward language but without denying the complexity of the issues, Genomes and What to Make of Them is both an up-to-date primer and a blueprint for the future.
