Wireless Billing Is Far Less Elaborate Than Approximated
There are very few people who have mobile phones that have not had cellular lifeline problems. Many times this is in a misunderstanding of what the limitations are and customer care requirements. While almost everyone now has one of these phones, few really understand the contract when they purchase it or exactly how the billing works.
Non-voice services have created one of the biggest problems in customer care and invoicing, but this can be eliminated with VoIP billing. Typical of this problem are charges, management, new ratings and content settlement. Messaging services such as 3G, IMS, WiMax, and Content are now making more stringent requirements regarding efficient service, clientele care and billing issues. Because of the many complaints on this issue the Federal government developed a truth-in-billing law.
At the current time, a number of service providers are studying the advantages of using social network communities rather than depending on subscriber-based systems. The benefit of such a system, to consumers, would be that they would no longer be listed to one phone number but could have several assigned to one unit. This would require keeping track of, understanding and providing personalized plans on the part of the service providers.
Because of the large number of consumers, who are purchasing into systems such as Web 2.0 and Mobile 2.0 infrastructures, there have been new demands. As a result, these companies are presenting unified data model systems that can better handle customer care and invoicing. Linear models are limited to small communities of 3 to 5 people. In contrast, this new system is synchronized with a complete view of the customer at any time and through any access possible.
Despite the sophistication of new mobile devices, there are still two main areas that are impacted the most by the new devices used. The first is handsets that now contain visually-based interfaces. These devices serve to reduce costs while increasing personal satisfaction. Since some people still have older devices and are communicating with those with newer devices, things like sharing photos may not be possible. Service providers are struggling with how to charge for these services and have built flexibility into programs in order to accommodate the types of problems that evolve.
One of the new concepts now under consideration is advertising channels on mobile handsets. In this case, charging advertisers instead of subscribers or giving significant discounts is currently being considered. This is just now coming under scrutiny as an experimental phase gets underway and how statements will be impacted is yet to be seen.
Traditionally, postpaid services have set the norm. However, today prepaid options are becoming more popular. One reason for this move is the fact it has many benefits over postpaid such as the fact that additional apps have increased service provider liability whose costs have been passed onto consumers. Despite this, real-time authorization and ratings are now helping providers to manage costs associated with content, meet customer expectations, and also use billing strategies that focus on marketing tools.
As mobile devices continue their upward trend, cellular lifeline billing options will continue to change. The addition of apps to mobile devices may even open opportunities in the near future to lower consumer costs through VoIP billing software. Ultimately, however, the best resolution may come through using advertising dollars to cover subscriber costs.
