ac smoke detector without AC?
I got a smoke detector and realized it’s one that can connect to electric wire and it has a battery backup. I am wondering if it will work the same as a regular battery operated detector if I just leave it on without hooking it up or is it going to drain that battery sooner. I have firex smoke alarm model i4618
I got some conflicting answers. The manual doesn’t state if it can work standalone. Anyone know for sure?
The battery will not drain when your outlet is powering the detector. When you lose your electricity (AC) then the battery will start being used automatically.
If you use only the battery to power your detector it will work as a regular battery powered detector. (it will drain neither faster or slower than a normal battery powered unit)
When the battery gets low, it will sound a short beep about every 2 hours to warn you that you need to replace the battery.. that short beep will continue for a few days or until you replace the battery.
