Why should I have to pay for someone else’s law enforcement, fire and EMT?
I shouldn’t be punished because someone else had a problem. I can spend my own money better pooling together with people I like and paying for private security, fire and emt.
dr.phil why does it matter where I live? I should be allowed to live anywhere I want without being faced with horrible punishment!
You don’t. You pay for *your* guarantee of these inexpensive services, and making them available to free riders when you are not using them does not appreciably increase their cost or quality to you, while it does increase availability to you (since you are still protected even when you are not at your own home).
However, other services are potentially expensive. Guaranteeing those services for those who do not pay will make the services you consume more costly and scarce.
You don’t take a personal hit in your emergency services by extending emergency services to others who don’t pay, but even now you already take a personal hit in healthcare by extending healthcare to those who don’t pay.
