Why doesn’t my motion sensor light work right?

I have a Regent motion-activited 300-watt floodlight. I just replaced the bulb, and I see now why the previous owner of the home did not ever bother to replace the bulb that was in there when he moved out: the damn thing does not work right.
The 1st night, it would turn on for no reason. It turned off after 4 minutes like it was supposed to, but, 10 minutes later, I would look out the window, and it would be on. It worked fine the 2nd night, but, the 3rd night and since, it has been going on for no reason, and not detecting me when I walk by it.
I have played with the sensitivity knob. I now have it back where it was on the first night. Now, it does not detect me when I get out of the car (it did the 1st and 2nd night) right in front of it, or when I go to take the garbage out. But, when I drove home tonight, it was already on. I just turned the damn thing off.

Hi,I would check the wiring on the detector. You my have a loose connection that is throwing it off. if that is alright ,you probably have a faulty sensitivity adjustment. In that case ,take it down and go buy a fresh one. Good Luck
