What do I need to input microphone into PC for recording?

I’ve bought my boyfriend a microphone for his birthday and I know I need some kind of mixer to put it into the PC. Help??
The mic has the larger style jack output, as it is a professional studio mic. We have all software.

What you actually need is an interface. An interface connects an analog signal like a guitar or microphone and will digitize it and put it in your computer. A popular starter interface is the M-Audio FastTrack. It has one guitar input and one mic input and connects to a computer via USB.
