Is this a smart thing to do with locks?
My friend is 23 and just got her own place. She’s living in a generally low crime rate city in a small housing estate of 5 buildings. You need a door code, and there’s a doorman and security cameras in the lobby, elevators some around the estate.
The door gate came with two single sided cylinder locks one on each side, so lock it outside, people inside can’t get out. Lock it inside, people outside can’t get in. She left them.
The door came with a entry lock and a lever mortice lock plus a door chain. She left those too. She added TWO double cylinder deadbolts.
The previous owner might still have extras keys to the cylinder locks, entry lock and the lever mortice lock even they they turned one set over. My friend says it was a family, parents and two college aged children. Only she (well and her family) has the keys for her deadbolts. Why not just change those locks instead of getting two extra locks and using every single one of them?
That is a good question.. I can’t honestly think of how much better it would be to do that. It might be cheaper, but you’ll be wasting so much time with the locks every day. If its safety she’s worried about, she should definitely get them changed and then use the additional two.
Maybe! She’s worried about getting locked out, and if she changes the locks, the guy at the door won’t be able to let her in her place. But the two locks will change that too.. you should ask her why she’s acting so crazy lol
