Can I use a hardwire smoke/CO detector on batteries alone?

The Kidde combo Smoke/CO detector that is interconnectable I want only comes as a hardwired detector with battery backup. Is it possible to just use it as a battery operated unit without connecting it to my house wiring? I assume the answer is yes since the battery is backup power.

Yes you can but you will need to use a good 9volt battery preferably a lithium for the unit. Check for the proper operation every three months. when the battery gets too weak then replace, regular batteries usually every 9-12 months. Lithium every three years.
