Detector Security Light
ON A OUTDOOR MOTION DETECTOR SECURITY LIGHT THERE IS A RED WIRE WHERE DOES THAT WIRE CONNECT TO THE WHITE?
The black to black and white to white but where does the RED wire go .
Red is usually switched by a device, such as the motion-sensing switch. White goes with whites, black goes to the black of the motion detector, and red connects to the black wire going to the light.
The red only has power when the motion-sensor is “tripped.”
If the red wire isn’t part of the lighting fixture’s wiring: Cap it all by itself with a wirenut.
The above instructions are based on industry standards, but you should pay attention to the wiring diagram that accompanied your device.
