According to someone…?
“If an HD camcorder is a cheap, cmos based flash camera like a flip type, then the footage will have a lot of lost frames and blockiness under low light and also when shooting fast subjects. Higher end cameras, like those with ccd sensors that record to DVI tape or HDD, will have much better performance.”
I know for a fact that this is definitely not true. There are a LOT of CMOS cameras out there that can produce REALLY great quality videos (such as the new Canon HF S10).
And what the heck??? There is NO difference in video quality between recording to flash memory and HDD; it’s just the amount of space! AND I have seen so many great cameras which record to flash…
So, there. Don’t you agree?
I don’t know who the someone is, but I think they’ve made a good point badly. The recording medium and the type of chip aren’t the causes of the poor quality, they’re just typical of the components used in low quality camcorders. The key issues are low light and fast subjects – flip type camcorders don’t handle them well because they use tiny lenses and chips and (I assume) the encoding electronics aren’t that great either.
