Out With Some Friends and The Canon 60D and 7D

If I had to buy a new DSLR nowadays it would be the Canon EOS 60D.

I managed to ‘test drive’ a Canon 60D and 7D for a few hours the other day and felt like a boy in a toy store. I did not want to let them go.

A decent DSLR just makes other snapping devices look like toys. Even in only DSLR company these two cameras made lesser, entry level models look like what they are… well… ‘entry level’. Of course both cameras had the usual feel of the precision Canon DSLR’s and I got the familiar rush at the sound of the lightning fast shutters, but this time I also experienced the thrill of the 5 FPS continuous shooting of the 7D. Playing with the 5 FPS of the 7D I imagined being an action photographer and loved it. The Dual DIGIC IV processor is thrilling ! The Vari-angle screen of the Canon 60D is one of those features that I never thought I would need until I used it. Now I am a fan.

Looking at my shots later I could sort through and toss blinking people shots, found some nice action shots and a few series shots. None of them were worth keeping, but that was my fault. The 18 MP sensors of both cameras demonstrated their worth in fine detail, especially in landscape shots.

I am perhaps wet behind the ears in believing that an APS-C camera can take precisely the same quality photographs as Full Frame professional toys in 99% of cases. I just don’t believe all the web based ‘evidence’ of full frame superiority.

I defy them to tell whether the shot was taken by a Full Frame sensor or APS-C.

Ultimately between the Canon 60D vs 7D my preference would be the 60d. The price will be the decider for me in Comparing the two.

If I did not have a bag full of camera kit already I would rush out and buy the Canon 60D today, but I will have to be satisfied with writing a review on the 60D vs 7D.
