Questions about Army enlistment bonuses and their recruiting quota.?

I keep hearing that I need to wait until a certain time of the year to join, due to that time of year being when the Army gets all of their $$$ from congress for the upcoming year. Also, I hear the Army is overstocked with new recruits and they are not as desperate to get people to join, which leads me to believe that getting the “up to $40,000 enlistment bonus” is not very likely. Also, I will be joining with a GED and 30 college credits, I plan on scoring high on the ASVAB, and I am in my late 20s. All that said, can someone with knowledge in this area chime in? I am going to join regardless, but if there is a certain time that I should try to do so in order to get a better bonus and other incentives, please let me know. Thank you.

I’m one of the guys that pays and authorizes these bonuses. The requirements and amounts of bonuses change almost daily, and at times multiple times per day depending on a lot of factors. It will literally depend on your ASVAB score, the MOS you choose and the DAY you go to MEPS. The time of year has nothing to do with it. I can tell you this, ALL bonuses are either going away or being SEVERELY reduced on 01 July 2009 so I would try enlisting soon if you are going to do it,
