There’s no reason for alarm when you’ve got an alarm system installed because of the secure feeling it brings. This serenity is probably the single most beneficial advantage of having an alarm. I used to have sleepless nights when i was away on business because I worried that my wife, who’s a heavy sleeper, would awaken to discover thieves in the house with her and the kids. Nowadays I relax when I’m away and awaken invigorated for the day’s intense round of customer meetings simply because I’m sure my family is protected.
Having said that, it is not enough to merely install a security device and forget about it. To enjoy genuine peace of mind out of your alarm, you should utilize it all the time and be sure of the fact that system is thoroughly maintained; otherwise the peace experiencing is nothing greater than a false sense of security. Under no circumstances say to yourself, “I’m just nipping out to the corner shop to get some bread and will not be more than ten minutes, so I won’t worry setting the alarm”. Who knows the length of time burglars were watching your property and are just watching for you to let your guard down for them to make their move. It may be that all they need is 10 unsecured minutes for getting on your property and into your home where they’ll wait for you to return. Absolutely nothing is worse than being ambushed at your house and forced to hand over your wedding ring at gunpoint. With regards to routine service, you should perform routine tests to ensure that the system is working properly. Don’t just ensure the siren works, telephone your security company to make sure that they’ve received a remote signal off of your equipment and that they respond to it, that literally brings us to a new issue: response to your alarm.
It is not enough to possess a security system on it’s own. True peacefulness can only be had from knowing that trained personnel will respond to your alarm. During these unsafe times, next door neighbours cannot be expected to rush in to assist, although you might believe that they would think to phone law enforcement. It is also important that your siren does not repeatedly ‘cry wolf’ when you’re not in residence.
